Don’t leave fun to Chance-It’s too important
I had a few open hours this afternoon and decided to grab my dog, Gatsby, and head to a nearby trail. A few minutes in the sun is the best antidote to the longer nights and the colder, shorter days. Of course, Gats is always ready for an adventure.
The small scrubby trail runs along the Haw River. As I neared the end of the walk, I glimpsed a bit of red fabric through the treetops. When I grew closer, I realized that the bit of red was actually a hammock stretched high up in the branches. Along with the hammock, I saw a swing and a knotted climbing rope.
This tree had been converted into a fun factory.
Someone had put a lot of time and work into having fun, and when the weather warms, I'm going to explore the swing, the rope, and maybe even the hammock.
Right now, my husband and I are finding our fun at Fred Astaire Dance Studio—we're taking ballroom dancing lessons! We started last year in preparation for our youngest son's wedding. A small, delightful family-only wedding replaced the big elaborate wedding, but we have continued taking dance lessons.
We're not good dancers, and we'll never be good. And because of Covid, we don't even have anywhere to dance. But we go for one reason: it's fun. We laugh at ourselves, and sometimes we laugh until we cry!
Our instructor keeps complimenting and congratulating us when we put three steps together. But it looks like we're actually taking lessons from I Love Lucy.
Don't leave fun to chance. It's too important.
