Are you excited to be at work, or are you relieved that it’s almost the weekend?
I recently conducted a small group workshop where we explored ways to increase job satisfaction. On a scale of one to ten, with ten being in love with their job, the whole group was hovering around a five.
A five.
That’s pretty low—and it’s low enough for these folks to start looking for a new job.
Each participant identified and then scored key components of their job, things like whether their work was challenging, compensation, recognition, and career advancement. It was apparent that the low overall score was being driven by a very low score in just one area. For example, general satisfaction with compensation and recognition could be overshadowed by a rating work engagement low.
