Quick, frequent, effective feedback- yes it's possible
My more recent coaching session focused on how to have a conversation about performance. My client, “J”, is a thoughtful, considerate, energetic CEO with high standards.
One of “J’s” employees missed an important goal and “J” used an entire one-hour coaching session to prepare for a half-hour feedback conversation. “J” wanted to make sure she was absolutely clear on exactly what she wanted to say and how she wanted to say it. We used role-play to work on the message until she was confident in her delivery. “J” takes employee development very seriously and recognizes that clear, timely feedback is critical to improving performance.
This HBR article also discusses how to deliver effective feedback. I shared this with my client because the article makes specific suggestions that I found useful. I hope you take 10 minutes to read it.
